Walter Niedermayr, in his second solo exhibition at the Suzy Shammah gallery, will show a selection of works from the Bildraum series and new images from his famous research on alpine landscapes.
Bildraum is an oeuvre born from his collaboration with the famous Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishiwaza, known as SANAA. During the last six years the artist has followed their work giving his personal interpretation of the architectural space. The resulting photographs reveal their respective individual qualities and a reciprocal appreciation. The same pale, penetrating light that spreads across a field of snow illuminates the interiors and construction sights of the Bildraum series. The transparency of Niedermayr's art highlights the SANAA architectural mark. Niedermayr's polyptychs are defined by sequences in which one element appears simultaneously in single parts thus breaking the spatial coherence of the photographic picture. The artist creates images embedded in a metaphysic space.
