The British artist Daniel Silver (London, 1972) presents his first solo show in Italy at Galleria Suzy Shammah. For this exhibition, Silver has created five new sculptures, eachof which is different from the others in terms of style and iconographic sources. The strength of his work is revealed by the freedom with which he represents the human figure: in a constant search for a form capable of expressing his feelings in space, the artist transfigures the recollection of a personal experience in an object. In the setting, small tapestries depicting figures of young people in stereotyped poses add counterpoint to the sculptures.
Silver is inspired by a wide range of cultural references, from the European sculptural tradition to the imagery of primitive arts, and eclectically incorporates them in his sculptures in order to create bodies with ambiguously human characteristics. Modelled in plaster, hollowed in wood or smelted in wax, the figures lose their features and allow the process by which they took shape to emerge: signs of the artist's distinctive sculptural work can be seen on the bodies, like a trace of the progress of his work.
