For this exhibition, Carlo Benvenuto takes his inspiration from a painting by Matisse, "L'Atelier Rouge". He has been using the house where he grew up, on Lake Maggiore, as a studio in which to photograph everyday and familiar objects. The colour red becomes the filter to revisit his own vocabulary and dominates in each composition. Red is used to translate the image from thought to reality and amplifies the illusion and the slippage between saturation and emptiness. In the artist's practice form and composition, together with a skilful and balanced use of light and colour, play a fundamental role, revealing Benvenuto's admiration for the masters of painting. His compositions, so much concerned with formal and aesthetic achievements, calmly and wittily point to the order that we attempt to establish within chaos.
